i got him out fly fishing and I had to keep him. Had him for a month now and just this week his bottom lip is red from hitting the glass. Any suggestions? He is 5 inches in a 55 gallon

Perhaps try covering up 3 of the sides of the tank with paper so that the bass knows there is something there, and doesn't try swimming trough the glass. If this doesn't work, maybe try putting a bunch of fake plants or something (obviously nothing that will take up too much space) along the back of the aquarium to discourage the bass from rubbing up against the glass.
He looks pretty stressed, especially since you've had him for a month. Some wild caught fish don't do good in captivity. Id try covering the sides like mentioned above, but I'm surprised he doesn't look comfortable in the tank after a month.
He’s fine now his lip is 90% healed. And he’s stop hitting and swimming at the glass. The other fish in there with him I think helped and got him to calmly swim around.
