has anyone bred any blue lobsters? or any red crayfish or even any crayfish at home? would make good lil feeders..

There are a handful of threads on crayfish breeding and crayfish as feeders. The red cray (Procambarus clarkii) is too aggressive for aquarium cultivation. The blue lobster is actually a blue morph of Procambarus alleni. A male and a few females can be maintained in around a 55 gal. However, 'berried' females have to be separated out. Then, the female must be removed once the larvae detach. The dwarf cray (Cambarellus schuffeldttii) can have a dozen adults in a 55gal. A fair percentage of larvae may survive with the adults prodided there's a ton of cover (rock work, plants). But, you'll never have enough of these 1 inch crays to make a dent in your fish food needs.
I raise 2 species of Cherax crays. These are large species that require lots of room. I'm expanding an old operation of 20,000gallons of grow-out tanks to 30,000gallons. And, I'm considered a small hatchery owner.

OUT OF MY LEAGUE!!! but thanks you for telling me this ahead of time...

my blue lobster bred in a 10 gallon.(didnt know tank was to small) they seemed to be fighting but after i redid my tank i found two little black crayfish. only one lived and then died about a month later. still got the two big ones though. I keep my water at 80-82 degrees and barley did any water changes:)

its easy just put a healthy male with the female and hey presto baby lobsters 28 to 30 water temp here is my pair the male has the orange band on the outside of his claw:headbang2:WHOA::screwy:

Can anyone give me an indication of characteristics of a sexually mature cray? I have both male and female in one tank, a definitely mature female, and some smaller males...just wondering if I should remove the smaller guys until they reach a size they can look after themselves, or if she will just beat them up..

my cray just had babies by her self
here a pic

in this thread it will show how to sex cays http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157383
