Currently I have 5 golden Kelberi Bass ranging from 6"-8" in length. They're housed in a 1000 gallon aquarium with lots of plastic plants and hiding spots in the tank. Their only other tankmates are an Oscar about 7", a Green Severum around 11", a Managuense around 13", a Endlicheri around 18", and Tinfoil Barb around 5". I have had all of these fish together and they've done great. I thought that maybe my Endlicheri would create problems, but I feed him very generously so he's never made an attempt at my bass or my tinfoil barb. I had more than one Tinfoil Barb, but I used to have a 17" Florida Gar in the tank and it picked two of them off. The Gar is in a 150g until my Bass and Barb grow large enough.
Anyways, I feel like I need to add more fish to the aquarium. I have way more filtration than I need for the fish I currently have in it, and can very easily upgrade filtration to handle very high bio loads. So I can put a lot of fish in this tank, but I want to make sure I get the right ones if I decide to get any.
If there is another way to make my bass less skittish then please do inform me. I have tried adding lots of decor, dimming lights, lowering traffic in the room they're housed in, and feeding a variety of different foods. They're all very healthy and doing great together, but they're still so skittish.
Again, I think adding more fish to make the aquarium feel a little more full, will help the bass feel more secure in the tank.
Here's the fish I thought about getting:
Red Tail Barracuda
Aral Barbel "Caspian Barbel"
Barracuda are cool and all, but I am not so sure they're going to be that great in the aquarium. I really also don't want to have to ween more fish off of live food. It was such a pain getting my Kelberi on pellets, and I really do not feel like doing that ever again.
Aral Barbel are very cool looking, and I can get them cheap where I am at. I am not so sure about their feeding habits, and if they're bottom dwellers or not. I am also not so sure how they will do with my Managuense (He cannot be housed with bottom dwellers, my Endlicheri is the only exception to this rule.)
My Managuense also cannot be housed with Oscars (My little 7" Oscar will be getting re-homed soon) and he does not do well with gold fish and especially Pleco.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.
