Hi, thanks for the fast reply. Yes, I agree that it's not a good picture...after many horrible tries that was the best picture I got. The fish is more than six inches long, so I'm not sure how young it is though.
Can't be to sure from the picture but I'm leaning towards female.
There appears to be no extension to the dorsal fin and the body shape for a 6inch fish looks female.
Do you have any more pics.A few more angles will help with sexing .It could be a male but I'm not convinced yet.
All good points, thanks fellow MonsterFishkeepers. Yes, it is correct that there is no dorsal fin extension even though the fish is adult size already. There is good coloration on the body and a lot of orange in the tail fin if it is a female. There is a small hump on the head, but I'm not sure if it's enough of a hump to be a male, or if it is a small female hump. Very confusing. I had wanted to get a male and thought it was one based on its size and coloration, but now I'm not sure based on the lack of dorsal fin extension. Also...it's not very aggressive.
Female 100% . Just look at the cheeks. Females get glazed up cheeks and males just have a few lines of blues. Males have bigger tAils and more flared finnage. As you can see her fins tappers down to a smaller tail.
