I’d say male bc of the lack of blue smearing on the lower jaw and the fins are quite pointy

Agree, on females the lower jaw has blue color, males not.
That said, when newly placed in a tank with very white, bright substrate, many cichlids wash out, and don't show natural colors.

male, females have beards , I,ll be it blue beard but a beard just the same, and males do not.

Cichness33 was correct.

The male Jack Depsey was only boss for about 72 hours. The Buttekoferi put him in his place.
But I must say they seem to be getting along 80% of the time.
