I was just wondering if anyone on here has personal experience breeding matas? I'm hoping to breed the ones that I'm working with and I'd just like an idea of who has experience in the likely event that I have any questions.
Well my friend if you are serious about that you have gutts Ok now serious matamatas are one of the most challenging species to keep alive and well let alone breeding them. That doesant mean it cant be acommplished ,it has been done several times in the past it can happen again. But they are one of the hardest freshwaterturts to breed, being only second to frt. From time to time apear "captive bred" matas but most have been hached from eggs layed by wild females. Some even say that in order to hach them the incubacion substrate needs to be acidic from vegetable mather. Well my advice? Get yourself more adicional well established adults of both sexes, build them a huge indor tropical pond with lots of vegetacion, hiding places and a large egglaying area, keep the water sparcly clean ,warm and acid, and feed them lots of small fish that you raised yourself(gambusia, guppys, convicts, etc you decide as long as they are healty and guttloaded). Oh and keep your fingers crossed You may also want to simulate a raining and dry season. This would give you the best shot ever
