max size of a teacup ray?

Agree totally with above, I am afraid that posts with this sort of question may get a little flamed as you need to read the stickys first.

If you want to keep rays then this is the forum for you, there are loads of great people on here and you can learn a lot from the threads.

Rays need BIG tanks - 200 - 300 gals min for an adult, probably much more than that.

Big filtration, big water changes and a big budget for food as they eat all the time.

I would add that many tea cups die due to the poor shipping conditions, they are often skinny and many have parasites.

They are cheap but often die so you "buy cheap and buy twice", you are better buying a more expensive Motoro (they grow big though - 2feet and more)

If you want a tea cup then pay a deposit and collect in a couple of months and regularly visit to see it feeding, it should have a big rear end bump and you should not be able to see the ribs or hips.

my orbignyi is only 7-8" in diameter and i've had it for 9 months now. got it when it was 5-6" and has not grown anymore but eats like a pig.

I've also heard that teacup rays are so small when you buy them because the pregnant mother is cut open and the pups are removed prematurely which results in killing the mother (and usually most of the pups). I wouldn't buy a teacup ray. It is worse than buying a tattooed fish.

It is not a "teacup" per se, but by the nature of a teacup being unidentified pup it could have be but my marbled motoro has doubled in size in 3 -4 months....it all depends on what you end up with, the size of your tank and the quality of the food and water.
