Posted this in the general section but ide figured Ide post it here as well.

So I got a buddy who's got a 400 with a mbu puffer and a ray both are grown. I advised kinda agaisnt this but to each his own. My concern besides the mbu mistaking the rays eyes as snails is when he feeds the mbu puffer clams and the puffer breaks the clams apart of the bottom could the left over shells if not removed cut and damage the ray at the bottom?? I assume yes but looking for advice on this

I seen this thread didn't reply because tbh never heard of those two species in the same aquarium. Highly risky imo.

I have seen the combination quite a lot in the hobby in the UK but the risk is always that the MBU may go for the rays eyes. Something I have often considered as I keep rays and like most fall for the charms of a MBU when I see one but never done it (so far)

MBU may go for the rays eyes
I remember having a bamboo shark pup and put a small humu humu trigger in with the shark. It bit one of its eyes out. I personally wouldn't take the chance of mixing a MBU Puffer with a stingray from my experience.
I also warned a lfs about a Queen Trigger with bamboo sharks. They didn't listen and the next visit 3 of the sharks were missing both eyes. I was upset but I warned them.

I would discourage the two species in the same tank for the reasons mentioned a above.
And I currently have a Mbu in a 450...this tank is too small!!
