I'm going to be starting a Neolamprologus multifasciatus species tank in a 10 gallon, and it sounds like I'll be having a "too many fry" problem pretty soon.

This got me thinking about keeping small piscivores to feed the extra fry too. This seems like a funny website to ask this on, but what are some interesting small piscivores I could keep to feed the fry too? By small I mean fit in a 20 gallon long or smaller. An example fish would be a South American leaf fish. I'd prefer to keep a non-obligate piscivore so their isn't constant pressure to supply live food, but I'm open to the idea.

The fish you mentioned is the best one
Hahaha, it does seem like a good choice. I am worried about being able to supply live foods at a constant rate though. My understanding is that they only eat live fish, and are rather voracious. Is this true? Would I need more thank a 10 gallon of multies to keep a single leaf fish happy?

Hogchokers (Trinectes maculatus) eat fish fry. To be completely honest, I've only seen one of my 2 hog chokers eat a fry (and only once). However, I have more than 10 adult mollies (and a few feeder guppies) and I almost never see fry. I assume it is because the hogchokers eat the the fry (at night).

I also feed my hogchokers earthworms (about once/week), but sometimes they don't seem that interested (and not nearly as interested as when they were young and growing). Maybe they're not as hungry since they eat enough fry??

Of course, hogchokers do best in brackish water and you might not want to deal with that. But I enjoy my little hidden mini-monsters.
