Most intelligent aquarium fish ?

You can't really know. Can you?

To me the Crenicichla Semifasciata is a lot more intelligent then the Oscar. But perhaps it is the Koi. The oldest lived to 206 years. Must have learned something...

My carp - black shark seems to have the ability to jump from tank to tank without even touching the glass. He jumps straight up a few times first. It looks like he is checking out the area from above before jumping sideways. That isn't dumb either.

Ive had an oscar, it seemed to be the most intellegent fish ive ever had. Not a fish, but octopus are considered very intellegent. At least at problem solving. Some people do keep octopus.

I think my oscar is smart...he greets me when i walk in the door (by coming up to the glass and gulping), and he also has an "I'm hungry dance" that he does when he wants something to eat.....which is odd because he is very very well fed lol

The one fish that I have kept that seemed smart was a large american eel.

What do you mean? Of course you can tell if a fish is smarter than some.
But no to the most intelligent fish. Its more like lets find out who the smarter
fish are..

My two and a half foot long black pacu that died while I was moving here to Ohio recently seemed very intelligent. Puffers are another one, as well as elephantnoses and rays... and to some extent gars, bichirs, and certain lungfish and knifefish species (that's why I like 'em :D ). I also have two Indian giant eels (One of the Anguilla species that's proven tough to ID) that seem to be very intelligent, so the smart American eel makes sense to me. And I can't forget my old jardini...
