Actually, I bought a Mudpuppy about 1 1/2 years ago at That Fish Place in Lancaster,PA. It's doing great and That Fish Place can ship animals for I think about $20. Just go on their website at www.thatfishplace.com (http://www.thatfishplace.com). The Mudpuppy was $30, and they also sell Sirens and Axolotls. Hope that helps!

Both Carolina Biological Supply and Nasco sell N. maculousus. All wild caught, of course. Axolotls are probably the better choice.

so does wards biological, thats were i'm getting mine, i think mudpuppies are cooler though also were on that fish place's website can you find out about mudpuppies and sirens

So I'd recommend checking out those places, though I would go with a captive bred axolotl myself. Well technically I already did :D

good luck whichever you choose

Is this for your pond? It'll be flathead chow. If it's for a tank, keep it witrh peaceful fish only. Mudpuppies can't hang with the big predators; in the wild they hide during the day when the bass, walleye, and pike are active, and forage at night.

ha no its not for the pond, this ones for a permanent tank life no fish tankmates, I want a native waterdog not that mexican axolotl, thanks for the link. last choice will be an axolotl tho if i dont locate a mudpuppy

Cool. I don't know how often the southern Necturus are available, but they are much smaller than N. maculosus (6-10" vs. 12-16"). How big is your tank?

I've heard of people catching them while ice fishing in Michigan.

well depending on what size i get him i was gonna start with a 10gal then work my way up as he grows

but now im having second thoughts and are looking at geckos
