Nice. What lighting do you use? Love the actinic looks of it.
unfortunately i am not 100% sure

i bought the tank from someone on craigslist and none of the light fixtures or bulbs have any labels. there are two fixtures and each one has one fluorescent and one actinic bulb but beyond that i have no idea. i'm going to replace the fluorescent with zoo med 50/50 soon. i'll probably leave the actinic as it seems to create a nice balance.

on a related note...

i've made some changes recently. i dumped the lace rock in favor of a very large and impressive looking 50 pound holey rock. also i've added a sciaenochromis fryeri, an f1 black altolamprologus compressiceps, a regal yellow baenschi peacock, and a jacobfreibergi hongi island peacock.

the new guys are quite impressive as is the holey rock. i need to get some new pictures up soon.

Beautiful setup. :)

By any chance, has your phenochilus put on any weight since October? If not, try pulling him and hitting with an anti-parasite in a quarantine tank. He looks like something may be going on internally. It would be a shame to lose a fish that rare and that old. They typically take about 18 months to start putting on the spots.

are you referring to the skinny curved shape of his abdomen?

he still looks the same. i got him from a friend and he's looked that way as long as i can remember which is quite a while.

i thought it looked a bit odd but the fish seems very healthy so i didn't dwell on it. would a parasite really go on that long?

i've got some more pictures if that might help you form a better opinion, i'll post them later.
