This is my first endlicheri. It was about two years of searching after I learned bichirs from the book "Jurassic Fishes", I robbed it from a small LFS at a small town, and the endlicheri was the personal collection of the boss. It was about 13", and there was another 16" endlichieri in the same tank. It's over seven years after I got it. It's now over 22", but looks like it will need a long time to achieve 24".
Here's a photo of it at 2003.

Here are some photos of it now. Can't see any difference with above photo (well the only difference is the photo quality, :D)

Very nice Endli. I got my first two about 2 weeks ago and can't wait to get them big and thick. Place I got it from had two Ornates that were very old and about 22-24 inches long, they were thick.

CDM what ISO, apeature, shutter speed are you taking your pics at and are you using a macro lens? Sorry to derail, I'm getting into photography and realy like all the super clear pics.

Thanks for the comment. Congrats for your new collection.
The photography parameters are like ISO200, F16~22 (wider depth of field), Shutter 1/250s (better motion freeze-ability). The lens used is the kit lens of Canon. I have macro lense (100mm), but, that is not handy for shooting big fishes.

Thanks.

I assume you are using no flash right?

I am using a canon 17-40mm F4 L Lense and use 1600ISO with a very slow shutter and low apeature (SP?) to get enought light. I really need to pratice and play around with the settings so I can take better pics. Thanks for the info.

I do use external flash light (infact I use 3 strobes for wide coverage). You can see where those sit.

Without flash light you sure have tough condition for photography. Plenty of light is really the matter.

7 yrs is a long time. The longest a fish ever live in my possession was 3 yrs.
I need to learn how from the best like you. What is a typical lifespan of a bichir in an aquarium? 10 yrs?
I've heard 20 yrs old ornate which was still living when we heard that ornate. They can accompany you for quite a long time (the best reason to keep ancient fishes).

Aw that is how you are getting your shots. I have an external flash that I bought, haven't bought a cord or transmitter. I agree its all about having enough light.

Thanks again.
