hi this is a truly beautiful build and ive been wanting to make one my self i would like to make a 3 wide 4 long 3 high plywood and what iven been thinking about is what if i used like a liner to keep the water in ? do you guys like the idea? and also i like your 1st design for the filter and i was thinking of making something like that but i would like to use 1 of those pool filters as a pump/ mechanical filtration like a prefilter and same 1st design exept the bottoms have 1 inch cuts where the mechanical filtration is so the water would run top to bottom for mechanical bottom to top on biological and then top to bottom and some kind of return>?

My filter/sump looked good on paper and actually worked pretty good but the center pump design was a pain in the butt as were the filter socks. When the sump developed a small leak I was not very disapointed. Changing the sump out to simple rubbermaid containers was a much easier solution. A pool filter is great on a big tank but you will not need it on the tank you described. You would be better off going with a good overflow box that acts as a prefilter and then into a sump. You could also run water through an FX5 for mechanical filtration. As far as liners go, I have not tried one myself but I think liquid rubber would be a better choice. It is very easy to work with and has very few down sides.

thnx well the only reason i want to use a pool filter is because i had 1 for a small pool one of those fill and float 1s that u pump with air around the top and i dont think it would top 1000 gph

with as much as we have talked i have never told you how good your tanks looks haha. so nice build man! i just might build something about that size one day :) this build is what made my final decision to go with liquid rubber
Thank you, overall I am very happy with the build. I love the way the outside of the tank turned out. Kinda surprised it looks as good as it does to be honest.

First of all mad props for the great build build, even more props for not putting your fist through the broken glass!

Yes Ross, you do have a very supportive wife who shares a love for the same hobby you enjoy. Thanks for the clarification, there!

My wife asked me the other day, "Why dont you just make it 2' longer?" Her thinking was to make my tank 4'x4'x10' instead of 4'x4'x8'. Aren't we blessed to have such supportive wives? The bigger question now is . . . Where does one find 3/4"x4'x10' sheets of 7 or 9 ply - plywood, with out making a special order for an entire unit (a banded stack) of the plywood? Lowes and Home Depot doesn't carry it as part of their normal inventory. It's all special order and I'd have to buy the entire unit of plywood. A.K.A. ---> A BUTT LOAD OF CASH. :WHOA: Please Advise!!

You need a wife like mine that actually approved of the tank. Today she said "you should have made it bigger". And I confirmed that she was talking about the tank!
:jaw: My wife accepts all my projects, even encourages most of them but NEVER has she asked: "Why didn't you go even more overboard?"
