Welcome aboard
How long has the aquarium been setup?
Are you using Dechlorinator during the water changes?
The color change may be caused by stress but just assuming but please answer all questions. Also what are your parameters from testing Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and PH? If you don't have a test kit your LFS will test them for you for free or a small fee.

+1 and are u adding any salt to the tank since it’s not a true freshwater puffer.

My guess would be ammonia. Puffers hate it. I had to fish in cycle with my Figure 8. Even at .25ppm there was a visual discoloration. Lots of water changes! We ran a 50% in the am and a 75% to 90% in the pm just to keep it around .25ppm. We ran fresh through the cycle then increased salinity .001 per water change after the tank was stable at 0ppms ammonia/nitrite.
