I finally got a snake yesterday, North American Rat Snake. It's about 16'' long and I'll be hiding it from my dad lol

Anyone else keep these guys? He's really active and is very content with me holding him, not skittish at all...

I also can't find any decent info on these guys lol

Thanks for lookin

Brian

looks just like a cron snake....

That's what I was thinking initially, I got him from Petco and there were two lables on the tank, King snake or Rat snake. Pretty sure it was a new arrival because when I saw him he was flickering his tounge and roaming around the cage.

Corn snake are rat snakes. They used to be called Red Rat snakes, that's technicaly what they are, but Corn stuck with people.

Nice looking snake. It does look like a corn though initially thought it was a baby rat snake

I found that article too, that's how I came to the Rat Snake conclusion

To me he looks like a Gray Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta spiloides).
That's my conclusion too, hope he says that gray though because I was reading that the can gain/lose colors as they get older and then that's when I can get a positive ID

Thanks :naughty:

I fed him two pinkies last night, how long should I wait before I handle him again? Is two days (48 hrs) enough?
