I am relatively new to fish keeping and am brand new to this site so I apologize if I post this in the wrong area.
Currently I am trying to build my own canister filter, either a 5 gallon bucket or 12"L by 4"W PVC pipe. The pipe design will be a HOB filter so no real lift or drop, however the bucket design will have a 4ft drop. I am working with a 55G long yank right now but will be upgrading to a 250G soon. It is a planted tank and currently houses some 4" catfish (Columbian sharks and pictus catfish) a 5" Silver Arowana and an Electric Blue Cray and 3 of my girlfriends Veil Angels (these are only temp as she is currently moving).
As I have never built anything for an aquarium I am lost in terms of what pump to go with. I would like something with an adjustable flow rate (around 1000GPH), reliable, and affordable (please don't recommend a 400$ pump) if I am able to get it off of amazon that would be best as well but any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated.
