Hey peeps,

First of all I'm new to this site and new to keeping arowana as a hobby. Recently, we bought an 8 inch super red arowana. I read that there are different types of super red eg. chili, blood, golden red and orange red.

Is there any way for me to check the type of super red arowana that we bought? The shop only told us that it is an Indonesian super red.

Unless it states on the cert if it's chilli or blood red then it is just super red and that's it

If it states chilli or blood then it should be of higher grade than just super red

The farms have just thrown all of the blood and chilli reds in the same pond and just named them super red

The only 2 types of red are chilli and blood red that come from different locations the other names you mentioned are just made up names

This is just my opinion and I maybe wrong but a aro with a cert stating chilli or blood red is of higher grade than one with a super red cert

Post a pic.

Indonesian Super Red normally refers to a Grade 1 red arowana. The signs of such are red lips and fins. As they grow, the scales colour up but it will be at least a year before you can see some colour. These appear on the opperculum, what they call "cracks in the cheek", and orange filling up the scales.

thanks for all the info.
Here a picture of the aro. Have a look at it. Cant get a good pic since its moving all the time. It is going to be transferred into a new tank in 3 days time :) cant wait for that.

pic does not work....

To be honest it looks like a 1.5 red. My reason is that the lips not red. Otherwise prove me wrong with the certificate but who knows...certs now and days are manipulated unless you have a chip scanner.

ALL super reds are classed as a grade 1 red doesn't mean they are pure chilli or blood red some say the higher grade chilli and blood red don't exist anymore because the farms have messed thing up by throwing them all in the same pond

If the cert says that it's blood or chilli red you stand a better chance of the aro having the traits that go with chilli or blood red meaning a super red could be a mix of both and the farm can't tell which type the aro is so cert it super red
