I have this stand for my aquarium:

When I was getting my tank set up, I tossed a 55 gallon into the bottom of it to use as a sump. There is a thin wood bottom on the inside. It is not supported underneath. So now, I find out a 55 gallon tank is too heavy for the bottom of the inside. It bows downwards towards the middle due to the weight, causing my sump to tilt forward. I doubt this is good for long term. I was wondering, is it possible to knock the bottom out of the stand? It doesn't seem to support anything. it just seems to be connected in there.

I have the same stand for my 125. Your best bet is to lay the stand on it's back and take some measurements. Liquidnails new lumber in that hollow space the same way wood supports rail road tracks.

I have the same stand for my 210g. I flipped it over and removed the cheap little plywood stops that hold the bottom in place and ran 2x4's lengthwise with glues and screws all along the front, back and sides. I then added a 3/4 ply across the entire bottom and trimmed it out to hide all my screw holes. I also had added 2x4 reinforcement to the stand along with a 3/4 ply for the top and then trimmed that out. I just did not like the height of the stand so the ply added 1 1/2" which made it look a little bit better with the tank.

so it looks like i'm gonna have to drain my tank and add stuff, correct? darn

This would be the best method since the bottom ply is only about 3/8 to 1/2" thick and only supported on the edges by thin strips of ply.

You might try to sandwich on a thicker ply, but it would have to be in sections to fit it in.

In my sig there is my tank stand build i'm doing currently and that should give you a good ideal.

I had the same problem with my sump in my 210 with the same stand. The whole thing sagged. I ended up getting a piece of 3/4" plywood cut to the size of the bottom and sitting that on top. It has been fine since.

However, my new thing is that a vertical board ... one and each end it now starting to bow. Has anybody else had this problem? Is there anything I can do? Should I have Aqueon send me two new boards and screw them in? Should I add some new bracing? Has anybody out there reinforced these stands?

2x4s can be your best friend when it comes to stands.
