Nor really a project but very pretty fish, super protective parents and seem to be breeding like rabbits. I've now had 4 or 5 diff generations all at same time. Just discovered another group today. Now if I could only get my discus joining the fun.

i started with 3 in 2009 and ended up selling about 100 per year from maybe 2014?-2020... for $1. decided to sell them all in favor of starting a malawi cichlid tank and regret it. the brichardi were much more interesting

Sorry terrible pictures...can never seem to get them very clear. They are very interesting fish, young looking after the younger. Very protective parents too. I can def see how youbwere selling so many. Hoping to do the same.

How do you get them to spawn/know if they're going to? I had cygnus for awhile and never got fry.

It's a very cool behavior of a lot of the neolamps, multigenerational rearing of young...I had a colony of 10 multifasciatus in a 20 gal that had about 40-50 big shells and within a year or 2 it seemed every shell had inhabitants...very prolific breeders and super fun to observe

Honestly wasn't expecting them too. Sometimes you just get lucky. Think my daughter told me she bought them for a dollar each. Typically buy 5 at a time so you have better odds of pairing up. We have 3, 1 male and 2 females. I also have a pair of convicts that constantly lay eggs together but the eggs are always sterile. Just unlucky with them. Not my choice. Kids wanted them and were hoping for babies.
Having them breed has alot to do with water conditions, temp, ph, cleanliness and sometimes rest of tank mates. Some fish breeds are just inherently easier to breed than others as well. They are more tolerant to water conditions than others.
Currently trying to find homes for..

1 - 8 in female neon blue jack Dempsey
2 - 6-8 in Geophagus prob male
2 - convicts breeder pr
2- electric blue acara breeder pr plus
10- electric blue acara offspring 1 to 2 in
2- 8 in leopard bush fish both female I believe.

Hopefully will find good homes for these so I can get these discus breeding
