Hi there i have an 8 x 2.5 x2.5 tank i've just set up again as a tanganykian tank as I had before a few years ago however I have never kept cylindricus and leleupi together due to reading about them being kept together can cause a lot of issues.
however i am now seeing more and more people keeping them together in (larger tanks mainly) together i was wondering if people felt i could get away with this in a tank my size with a suitable amount of rocks etc?

Im aware there may be a few scraps but there always is form my experience of keeping these two fish in different tanks. But was hoping that the size of the tank mite allow for me to get away with it?

Cylindricus is essentially a blue leulupi with vertical bars. They are so similar that keeping them together will clash or hybridize. Both species are very aggressive and cylindricus, being slightly larger, will push over leulupi. Below are pictures of my hybrid cylindricus and leulupi. It alternates between looking like a cylindricus with a touch of yellow when the bars are intensified, or a wash out leulupi when the bars fade out due to mood change.

Thanks how did they get on in your tank together?
im assuming as they bred it wasn't too bad?

wondering if anyone else has kept these guys together.

In a tank that size I think you will be fine as long as there is an area for them both to claim. When they start breeding you could have some issues but nothing to bad. Had my Cylindricus in my community Tang 180 gal. with Moba Fronts, Gold Head Comps., Brichardi, Neolamp Nigriventis, and Julidochromis Regani worked fine, but I moved the Cylindricus to their own 30 gal. because their landscaping skills was driving me crazy.
