Hey guys,

posted about getting new fish in a previous thread, one of which was a 2-3 inch fire eel. Got this fish in online and it was very skinny but active. Put the eel in my 10 low tech gallon planted aquarium. It’s been over a week now and I’ve tried a variety of foods with no luck. Frozen baby brine shrimp, frozen blood worms, hikari pellets, chunks of smelt, etc. When I drop the food in, the eel will come and sniff the food but never see it actually eat it. I’ve tried turning off the lights and feeding at different times (with forceps in front of its face) to no avail. I have seen the eel snap at things in the tank and since the aquarium has been set up for a good 5 months now, I know it has scuds and other critters that the eel could be munching on to stay alive.

I know several people gave me some suggestions, but I’ve tried most of them and have had no success. Looking for more input and ideas to hopefully save this eel from starvation. My next steps may be to order live food like black worms or vinegar eels online and to try deworming with general cure or praziquantel formula.

Please let me know! Thanks again for checking this thread out. I’ll do daily/weekly updates.

Update: fire eel passed away today. Thanks everyone for their help. I really tried my best but didn’t have the adequate food and it was really malnourished when I got it :(

On the bright side, I purchased a new much larger fire eel 6 inches. Will update on feeding, but looks much healthier/thicker and should have no problems with this one 🤩25790D1F-E6AB-4DEC-A7EF-9DEA2948F775.jpeg
