kuwait
ok i just got two as a gift from my baby brother, luckily i had an empty 250gallon tank, its been 12hours since i've put them in there, i didn't expect him to find them here (kuwait) but he got them, i turned of the lights and kept the room dark, i went in there 12 hours later and gave the cut shrimp and cut chicken heart, 2 strips of each, i went and checked in on them they didn't eat, they are about 3inches the tank has no gravel or any decoration, i asked my brother if he can ask the store what did they feed them but the guy who answered had no idea, should i just starve them a day or two then try again ?

yes i do know how big these guys get, if they live and i hope they do cause i've seen them and they are amazing, i do have a above the ground koi pond well it used to be a metal frame swimming pool so i can use that if they get bigger so that's not a problem.

Might just need time to adjust to new tank mine ate chopped silverside at 2 inches in a few months he eats a 3 to 4 inch silerside every other day hes about 4 inches ive heard if u keep 2 together theres a good chance of 1 being eaten have fun im sure it will eat for u they are pigs

they are swimming upside down a bit now, they still correct them self and swim but are a bit floaty :(

Have you checked the water perimeters? Can you get any antibiotics? What's the temp? And is there any visible signs of parasites? E.g. Pitting/indents in the stomach, worm type things in gills or anus? Or any obvious reddening or swelling anywhere?

i had the same problems with other fish but i just got one redtail catfish and one redtail x tiger shovelnose hybrid catfish. and didn't get the problem with them, try using melafix it is for quaranting new fish to your tank and heals variety of things. dont starve them, there still fry and there catfish they will stay a fry for awhile. just feed them a good amount so they dont starve, oh i forgot to say melafix should be at your local petstore

best of luck with your baby monster fish:) happy fish keeping

the tank has been cycled but didn't have any fish in it for 3weeks so i assumed it has to be cycled again, i did use some media from the koi pond to speed stuff again if it needed to, i don't have a test kit on hand right now, i have changed 25% of the water twice now, i can get almost any antibiotic, temp is 26c which is 78f, no signs at all they look fine except the no eating and the upside down thing :(

Hows the flow in the tank, if they're gasping at the top they may not be getting enough oxygen. You need to get a test kit ASAP though, it could be Ammonia especially if you've been feeding you're tank while cycling and havent been able to test. RTC are amazing fish and definitely need the utmost care.
Good luck. :)

flow is good, not gasping when i first put them in they just sat at the bottom not moving much when i turned of the light and the room lights they started to swim around, lets assume its the ammonia ? isn't water changes supposed to fix it ? or am i too late ?
