Hi, today I brought my first flowerhorn, my dream fish. Brought him home acclimatised him with drip for an hour before releasing into his tank. Did have an accident when netting him into tank where he jumped out of bet onto carpet. Picked him righ up and put him in the tank straight away. Seemed dazed slightly but has been chasing clown loach around.

I fed him just a minute ago and he accepted two pellets. When doing this I noticed some red string hanging off my his Gill. Like a sore. I am now so panicked as have totally fallen in love with him and he is damaged. Should I treat or monitor?

The tank is cycled with mature media nearly 2 months ago and has 7 small clown loach in for past 2 weeks with no issues. Water parameters are good and done a water change 2 days ago.

I have been watching him in LFS since he arrived there Friday and didn’t see anything wrong or alarming just a bit of side fin missing which I believe will grow back? 6AA22132-626A-4F23-A157-56140B60478B.jpeg827EBE40-E11B-4B6C-A990-C71ACFBB5C1C.jpeg6BB1853A-5472-4D4B-97FA-4564A62B38F9.jpeg

I am hoping I am worrying about nothing but please help

Keep the water clean for now. Close monitoring. The fin should grow back.

Thank you it is looking better today. He has eaten a lot more today but it’s still very very skittish. I’ll do a water change over the weekend.
