Hello, I recently saw a strange looking little fish about 3 inches at my lfs in a tank full of cichlids, I ended up buying the fish for very cheap and the owner said it was sold to him as a " texas X", any opinions on what the mix can be?

The head and fins are wrong for a polleni. Again I know this is IMPOSSIBLE I was just saying the coloration is akin to a polleni’s coloration, but your probably right.

it looks like a cross between a jack dempsey and a texas
Obviously there is texas or carpintis in it but where exactly do you see Jack dempsey. I can imagine if it was a JD hybrid then there would be a more significant change in shape. The coloration also does not look like a Jack dempsey. It's dark yes and you see some blue speckles but you can also see a faint flowerline. It looks entirely like an unfaded red texas.
