I wanted to put peacock bass but customs wouldn't let me bring them in. I suppose I'll put the little african cichlids until the filter really start kicking in. I need to keep this thing super clean for my kids and my wife. When I've got plenty of good bacteria I'll puts some guapotes.
I took some more pictures at lunch today. They made the concrete lines to level the terrace concrete so that the water doesn't run into my house. He needed the drain put in the barrel filter before he could set it so I brought those pieces home. This is my version of a bulk head fitting. We'll connect this at the bottom and out to a valve that will lead to my irrigation system. There shouldn't be any large particles in this filter because its coming from my filter skimmer. I'm still not sure what I want in this filter barrel.
Now that the drain is put in he set the filter and continued moving up with the rocks to hide the barrel filter. I designed the falls this way so that the water splashes more than falls. I want it to lightly water the ferns and orchids that I'm going to plant on it. That's also why you see so much empty space between each rock so that I can wedge the different plants in between them.
My football coaching is over with for the year so I finally have me weekends to putts around in the garden. I just got a shipment of heliconias in from the caribbean. They're awsome. We'll see how long they last when the summer winds kick in. That's one reason I put the bamboo wall up. To give you an idea of the height of these plants, the bamboo is 6 feet high.
The second barrel filter is where the second falls will be coming from the apartments.
I'm seeing where the concrete is starting to settle. I sure hope I don't have a bunch of leaks when this thing is done.
I can just see you guys laughing now at me getting my 6'2" body into that barrel filter fitting all of the media in place. I know that I should have left some room to maneuver around the barrel but I didn't. In this case beauty is more important than convenience. I have one bottom drain that will irrigate the tropical plants. There's one outlet to the falls, and a top to squeeze whatever I need to sqeeze into the barrel.
He is leaving plenty of holes in between the rocks for me to fill the thing up with ferns and other plants.
I had the guys start putting pega mix into the concrete mix to add a little more elasticity and water proofing. I just felt that I was getting too many cracks while thing were settling.
