The first time I had seen or heard of a Nicaraguan Cichlid was the day I bought him. He is the most beautiful and colorful cichlid I have seen in these parts. I was told he would be ok with my varied SA cichlid tank and could hold his own against bigger Jack Dempsey and Oscar but wouldnt cause too much problems of his own. Any of my fellow MFK's kept these beauties before??? Grateful of any experiences or advice.

Hi he is actually a she :) The females get the blue on the face and the males stay fully gold, looks to be in nice condition as well :)

Should make about 6 inches as adult maybe a little bigger - males get to about 10 inches or more. Mine is a bit of a bugger at times but generally okay - they do have a habit of picking fights and being unable to win I have had to rehome 2 or 3 fish that she started on then they just beat her but she is my favorite so usually gets her way....

Just being a noob, wanted to know how large your tank is, and is that the 'official' name for it, the Nicaraguan? That's really a beautifully colored fish!

Its a 110 gallon tank. Common name - Nicaragua Cichlid
Scientific name - Hypsophrys nicaraguensis

Yes that is a beautiful female. The males are more reddish and have red fins with darker spots in them.

My pair are over 2 years old. male is about 7" and female 5". They dont get as big as people say. I would say 8" max for males.
