Is it okay that I have them in the same tank. The 2 girls have been checking him out not showing much aggression but they are 3 inches bigger then him. I'm a little worried they may bully him due to his size I am also unsure when he is supposed to turn blue. I'm very new to all of this.

I personally wouldn't do because if they did spawn the fry would be Hybrid. Also chance of females may harass the male like you stated.
