So... me and my fiancee went fishing recently and we had two left over minnows when the sun finally set. I didn't want to throw them into the water so I took them home and put them in my ten gallon hospital tank. A week later and they are thriving; I thought about adding them to my 150G but I read they really dislike water over 70 degrees so I am planning on getting another tank.

Found a 75G for a hundred bucks and I was curious what would be some great species to keep. I wanted to do sunfish but I've read that they're real *******s. I went Jonah's Aquarium's website and thought madtoms / pygmy bluespotted sunfish would be good. Maybe even a molted sculpin?

But alas, I have little knowledge of these species and was looking for some guidance. I appreciate everything yall give me. This website really has been a huge help in my much loved hobby.

Sunfish can vary wildly in temperament. Bluegill are giant jerks, Warmouth (despite the name) are pretty peaceful.
In European trade I met with North American fishes such as notropis chrosomus, notropis lutipinnis, pimephales promelas and lepomis megalotis. These fishes are good for coldwater tank. Sculpin will require a chiller during summer.

Interesting, I'll have to read more into those species. Thank you!

I've always heard that Bluegills are the equivalent of some species of Cichlids when it comes to aggression. lol

I think chub minnows/stonerollers would be great in a 75g but know nothing about keeping them. I dont know if they would eventually start building pyramids of stones in captivity like they do in the wild.

it might be an aggressive sort of choice, and I know little, but perhaps a redfin pickerel? they don't get any bigger than 12 inches, are colourful, and SUPER BADASS

What species are the minnows? Pics? A lot of minnow and shiner species can usually handle and thrive in temps around 70 degrees F. I currently have a school of 5 Striped Shiners in my 55 gallon. I also had two Golden Shiners in there recently, but they didn’t do well when I was quarantining them. I got them as live bait from Cabela’s.
