Not another acrylic repair question ?

I just picked up 3 slabs of 1 inch thick acrylic. each one is 96 inches (8 feet) by 37 inches (3 feet 1 inch).

So, here is the rub. They are from a bank, so they each have a hole (1 has 2) cut into them, each hole is 3 inches & positioned 7~10 inches from the edge (8.5 to the center of the hole).

I thought about PVC caves running from hole to hole or I could cut off 10 inches & have 8 feet by 27 inches even cut between the holes & have various sizes for many windows.

But then I thought, what if there is a way to repair a LARGE area.

Thoughs, feedback, etc....

First thing that comes to mind ...Overflows .

Or

Have acrylic plugs cut to size and solvent weld them into place.

Thought of overflows too. I just can't think straight...


The price & where I found them... hmmm.

A friend of mine used to own a building, A collection Agency rented it & they bought them from a bank that went belly up. The agency moved & didn't take the counter or glass.

I told my buddy that if the new owner didn't want it, I was willing to take it off their hands. They tried to sell it (sort of) but the 2 possible people didn't come through.

Boils down to, the new owner is into fish & wants to be invited to see what I build with them. For that price, how could I refuse

For those not so good in math, The gas & time to pick them up.

Oh, that & the year it took waiting for the other people to not pan out.

So history does repeat itself. Recently I came into a free 375g that needed a new bottom panel. I then later found a free 3'x8'x1.5" piece of acrylic.

Unfortunately for me, I also have an inner child that is also a telescope nerd so I sat up one night doing some optics math to see if a 36" main objective could be cut out using 1.5" thick material. After the aneurysms in my brain healed I realized that I could make the worlds largest pair of binoculars.

I would just go with trimming down the section and having 8'x27" panels. Then you either have one HUGE tank, or you could make a few monster tanks. Other though, send one of those panels to me so I can make a tank.

This question implies I could tell the difference. Its heavy & clear, beyond that; your guess is actually better than mine.

Dang, my garage is a mess ! ! !

Anyway, the holes appear to have been bored with a tapered bit from both sides, they are smaller in the center than at the face of the sheets.

The tabs from the "payment drop" area had to be cut to fit them in the van.

Let me just tell everyone, if you are going to load or unload this stuff, bring a friend. its not light, I moved it about 80 feet to load it in the van, then when I got it home I only went about 20 feet from the van

That's about 300 lbs per sheet, I must be nuts. * note to self, Don't do that again.

So now that you see it, any new thoughts on hole repair?
