Not False

Just got some of these at the LFS. They were sold as Indonesian SAE. They certainly are not Thai SAE, and they look to me to be much like False SAE (Garra Cambodgiensis), which would have been local anyway.

But the owner said they are not False SAE, and definitely have been imported from Indonesia.

So they are Not False - double negative in terms of fish.

Look to me to be Garra, of some sort.

What are they, any ideas?

Epalzeorhynchos kalopterus. Not 100% sure because I cannot the see the two pairs of barbels, but 95% sure because of the white-edged and black coloured fins (Garra and Crossocheilus have more or less transparent fins with a little black and yellow in older specimen).

Yes, I am sure you are right. Aka Flying Fox.

I have put them in a tank with a bunch of SAE in already. Not sure how long they will be compatible.

Definitely flying fox. Compatible I wouldn’t worry about. They argue and fall out between themselves and with red tail black shark but don’t really do much damage to each other. But they do get quite large, circa six inch or so, so keeping them in numbers can require a biggish tank.
