The fish shop up the road has what they're calling Lemon Goldfish. These appear slightly compressed like a wakin but have a single tail. The head is broader than a comet and the eyes are jet black. The body is a surprisingly clean and brilliant yellow color. The highest quality specimens appear to have no white on the underside while the cheaper grades at nearby fish stores do possess patches of white. They also have blushing gills. Does this variety grow to the massive proportions of a comet or shubunkin or do they stay a little smaller? Google appears devoid of info, I most likely am not using the correct name. Any ideas?

Seriously? I guess I'll have to assume they reach shubunkin sizes, then.

I have heard about the lemon goldfish. It appeared that they looks like a common with yellow coloration so it is safe to assume that they do grow up to the comet/common/shubunkin sizes.

I was just looking at this a min ago did a google search and came up with this I was just wondering if they are dyed or is this a actual color morph or something?

They don't look dyed at all. And some have white patches. I am relatively certain this is something like a lutino morph.

Like this?

Lemon/yellow is a pretty rare colour in goldfish, and there is a bit of a neat story behind it. In China, as the goldfish breeds were being developed, yellow was a colour reserved for the Emperor and thus yellow goldfish were banned from all but his ponds. I'm not to sure if there is a genetic reason for the rarity of yellow, or lemon, goldfish, or if indeed they are rare due to being restricted to royal ponds.

Yellow goldfish are usually commons or comets, and thus get to around 8-12 inches, maybe a bit bigger. I have yet to see the yellow colour in any of the fancy goldfish types.

Cool! Yes, that yellow is similar to the ones I saw. It lacks the black eyes and blushing gills but has the same metallic yellow. Thanks for the history. :)

that looks nothing like what my mother/the lfs has listed as lemon goldfish.
The one my mom has is roughly 5 1/2 or so inches long and 3 or so tall. It gets really tall and constantly moves..see if i can get pictures of it when i go over there tomorrow.
also it got to this size in a fairly short amount of time > ~6 months

I'm in Everett so if your lemons aren't my lemons I'll be really surprised! 5 inches for common-type bodied goldies is normal for six months of ownership assuming it was about 1" when you bought it. They usually get to 8" within two years and just keep on growing from there.

Can't wait to see a pic of what you have! I'll try to get over to the LFS and snap a shot of the lemons there if my camera will turn on.
