Hello,

I am kicking myself as now that I have done some research I have found out that SCS 100 silicone is basically no good for Acrylic bonding of tank walls

This is the situation. I bought an acrylic sump tank off of the local classifieds and had to mod it in order to make it fit my stand.

I went to my LFS and asked for acrylic aquarium silicone and explained that I was cutting 2 inches out of the length of the tank and would be resealing the end back on after I removed the excess. I was told that silicone would be fine and I had nothing to worry about

Now I know that was a fat lie

My question is can I use JB Waterweld or Pemapoxy 5 minute plastic weld to seal the tank. I have spent the last hour looking online and cannot find any info about its bonding abilities to acrylic. I know Waterweld is aquarium safe but wasnt able to find anything about permapoxy's aquarium safeness.

I dont want to use weld on as it is hard to find and I already siliconed the inside of the sump tank so I figured I could just use the WATERWELD to seal it on the outside, I am not worried about the look of it as long as it doesnt leak and if needed remove the silicone and use the permapoxy.

Any insight or suggestions would be great!!!!

Thanks

well I did a test of the jb waterweld on a piece of scrap acyrlic.

As Long as you sand the acrylic to give the jb waterweld something to bond to it seems to hold on, and tight, I had to use a flat head screwdriver and a hammer to remove even the smallest bit of the JB Waterweld.

I already looked into it and JB Water Weld is Aquarium safe and Trust me, I feel comfortable in it holding, It flipping strong. I will set it up and let you know if a few days if it starts to leak at all

Hey just wanted to let you know the waterweld is holding strong and working great, have had the sump going for about a week now with no issues at all, if you slightly scuff the surface of the acrylic with sandpaper it will bond very well!!!
