Gorgeous!! Now thats what I'm talkin about!!! I tell you what, sp. 'xingu I' is still one of the more attractive Crenicichla available!!!
Thanks for the photo progression, that was superbly done!! You'd taken great care of her!!
Get her a male, and watch those colors POP!
BTW...you should have totally taken her to the ACA. She would have definitely given them a run for their money. You can't beat the contrast and colors of an adult female sp. 'xingu I'.
Thanks for the comments. Would love to get her together with a male, not sure that I could make tank space though, she is still in the 90 with my breeding pair of Caquetaia spectabilis, they get alone fine. But a pair of Xingus wouldn't fit with the specs, and I expect my Xingu to outgrow the 90 eventually on her own. If I could find someone within driving distance with a mature male, I would consider loaning her out, make some babies, and some good photo ops. She rarely gets feeders, maybe twice a year if I see danios on sale very cheap. Mostly it's NLF floating pellets, Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold, Hikari Food Sticks, and krill.
Maybe I will take her to the ACA in Milwaukee next year, or a local show if I find any.

yeah i gotta agree with peanut...there are very few xingu 1s that are raised healthy to adult colors...but when they are they are truly beautiful! none other has such a thick bright white line on the dorsal, the cherry red of their bellies and the greenish yellow skin ---real lovelies when full grown
Thanks, I also love the contrasting colors. Glad I got a female, that's what I was hoping for.

OMG, where did you get here, I want one mad bad now....gorgeous fish
At Aquarium Adventure in Columbus, Ohio. They had a tankful of juvies at one time, but they must have went fast, I haven't seen any since. I make the trip out there about twice a year.
