Ornate Bichir Price Check

I have been looking for some large ornates to go in my new 400 gallon tank with my silver aro's.

The LFS has two that are about 12-14 inches longs. They are asking $120 apiece! I really like them but i think it is ridiculous to pay $240 for the two of them.

What is the typical price for some ornates around that size?

I picked my ornates up off local hobbiests , but recently I though about getting a few more because i lost my big male and the prices shocked me !

Here's a clip off a price list from a couple weeks ago, and this is from a shop who i trust, has always offered me very fair very competitive prices. Actually just bought a pair of WC Lapradie bichirs off this same price list and they arrived last night looking GREAT!

it surprised me, turns out I got my ornates for a steal!
 
So I went to the store and did some sever haggling on the price. I only really wanted two of them but I ended up with three! He gave me a deal for 3 of them at $75 apiece! So I got all three for $225 when they were originally going to cost $360 total.
 
you guys are definitely overpaying for your ornates compared to the prices I see. i've 10-12 inch WC ornates for 40 bucks each in the LPS. There was a bunch.
There are large ornates regularly sold at kijiji for 40-80 dollars. Guess it depends on location.
 
larger ornates usually demand a good bit of cash, however depending on your area and the availability as well as the demand for them will vary the pricing.
 
Well I ended up getting three of them for $75 a piece. The largest is about 16", then there is one that is about 15" and the third one is 14". I'm picking them up next week, pictures will follow.
 
Thats not a bad price u paid big. Not sure where your located in il. But i only see babies and they run 50 a piece. I find if you want multiple larger ones out here it is cheaper just to order them.

Lix bichirs where i am at bichirs are kinda rare to find especially at larger sizes. Just about every one i have bought or seen locally were babies and ranged from 40 to 50 besides sens witch run like 10 for regs and more for albino

I agree. It all depends on your location but the price the op got his for is a steal IMO. The only large ornates I've seen at an lfs were only about 12" and they were going for around $100-150.
