Hi all,
I'm new hear and I got my Oscar a week a go now. I have a 75g tank with a 25g sump. The tank was quite heavily stocked with around 35 African cichlids for around 2 years so the tanks / filter was already mature. Moved my africans on to another keeper and picked my Oscar up the next day. Hes around 8" and was in a tank a little too small for him and the keeper didn't really do their research and he grew too fast and killing the rest of the tank. When i picked him up the top of dorsal fin was a little frayed and this is now healed up itself. He did have this damage on his nostrils when I picked him up and it has not got any worse. I feared the worst after seeing his sensory pits it was the start of HITH but reading about his pits properly Im not convinced it is now.
Should I do anything with the water such as treatments or salt for now or just keep up with the water changes? I used to do 90% a week without fail when it was an african tank so water quality wont be a problem, i will keep up the same on him or down till hes got just enough water to move so wont quite be 90% now given his size but maybe 75%.
Hes acting normal, he was shy for the first couple of days but now sits watching me in the tank and as soon as I move hes up at the top looking for food and eats like a pig. Im feeding a mix of Hikari Gold and Fluval bug bites on alternating days and have some frozen bloodworms and beef heart i will give him once a week.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks.
