Oscar Fish with Big Eyes....

Hi All,

I have an adult Oscar (2+ years and 12") in my 75G BB tank with some other fish.

Do you think its eyes are on the big side proportionally? I feed him Hikari Gold pellets (6-8 pellets once a day), frozen pawns once a while. 80% water change twice a week.

I have seen other Oscars on YouTube are fatter than mine. Just wondering if there is anything I can do to help him/her gain some weight and make his/her eyes look smaller.

Wow... 15 yrs old? I thought Oscars can live up to 5 years.

Anyway can I feed him more and help him grow fatter?

Your Oscar size looks fine I personally wouldn't feed too much may cause bloat and you will definitely have to increase your wc's and maintenance of filters to prevent HITH if you don't already know this.

I have two one is 15ish and the other is around 10ish I’m not 100% sure to be honest. I got the black one when I was 14 or 15 I actually got two. But the other died after a move a few years later. And I replaced him with my white one.

So they definitely live past 5 if cared for properly. Exactly how long I’m not sure. Most people I talk to say 15 or 16 is the oldest they’ve seen.

Really nice looking Oscar.

I have been looking for a large acrylic tank (6 footer). No luck yet. I would love to put my fish in a bigger tank.

My Oscar changes color (the black section of his/her body changes to like light lemonish color and the tail vibrates. His/her mouth opens up and charging the objects/other fish). What does that behavior mean?

Displaying his dominance, normal behavior. As long as he isn’t killing the other fish your fine. I find mine just likes to push other fish around but doesn’t actually do a lot of damage to them. Unless of course he just eats them whole. That’s a different story.
