I have found 2 potential sellers of p. congoensis in The Netherlands where I live, but I am afraid that they might confuse a p. afer with this one. How to definitifely distinguish the one from the other? All pics I found are inconclusive and I have never found a list of unique physical features of p. congoensis. Please help me specifically ;-)

I've read before that the afer, which is what I have has gold colored spots and the congoensis has black spots.

Thanks, I read too that congoensis has black spots/broken stripes and also shorter/ X. nigri-like body shape? I read that congoensis reach only about 25cm lenght, is it true? Then it will be a perfect fish for me, but like I asked before, are there ever been 100% congoensis individuals in the fish market, are they may be afers? is the congoensis so rare and from the limited area, that it´s not possible to have?

It very well could be that congoensis comes from a relatively small and hard to reach area....I'm not aware of your geographic location but an American vendor by the name of Rehoboth Aquatics has them listed on their website. They were a vendor here on MFK a few years ago.
