No it's not a Jaguar, it's scientific name is managuensis. They are in the Parachromis family. I have not owned any but many here have and will chime in......it's a nice fish.

Let me clarify, the scientific name of a Jaguar is Managuensis. Both of the fish you mentioned are in the Parachromis family.

Okay so the fish is technically listed as parachromis friedrichsthalii sp. la ceiba/rio danto just explaining the collection location. theyre a medium sized parachromis that maxes out around 12" or so for the male and probably about 10" for the female. they were discovered in a lagoon in la ceiba honduras and a limited quantity were brought back and when they went to collect more the lagoon was gone aand i think there was like a hotel there but i think they have been found in the close by rio danto so the species wont be lost. they are very much a typical parachromis with good pair bonds and aggressive so tank size i would put at being minimum 75 gallons for a solo fish/tight for a pair and a 6' 125 being an ideal pair tank size. my pair has a 135 my pair and is easily the most beautiful fish ive ever raised and are a pleasure to keep and do great as a pair together. heres a video of my pair with the male @9" and the female @6". hope this helps

Not much to add. I decided to get these guys after seeing fishman's pair although they are not the la ceiba varient. One fun fact about the freds is that they have been known to feign death in the wild like livingstonii in lake malawi in order to ambush small fish,

Cool fish though the freds are my first parachromis and I am liking them a lot.
