Paratheraps Breidohri questions

"The fish grew fast and at eighteen months the largest, most dominant male exceeded seven inches."

That doesn't sound like very fast growth to me at all..

I found them to be non-aggressive compared to many of the other Vieja/Paraneetroplus/Theraps types in a 150 gal cichlid community.
They spawned at a fairly small size, just over 3" for the female, around 5" for the male.
As the gcca article points out, although they are omnivores, similar to most other V/P/T types they prefer a sizable amount of vegetable in their diet, mine ate peas and romaine lettuce.

I found them extremely slow growing ...maybe 3-4" in a year. They take virtually all foods with a vengeance and really love peas. They are always at the front of the feeding line, literally jumping out of the water to get at the food. They are quick, have a lot of energy and are always on the move doing something or other. I've had many different Vieja/Paratheraps/Paraneetroplus but these have to rank as one of my all time favorites. They are very prolific and they have parenting down to perfection. Here are a couple of pics and a video of one of my pairs.

Mine were slow growing, but unlike Duane's pair mine were as or more aggressive than my black belts. They couId clear out half of my 220 @8"and 6"
They were tank mates with 12"+ parachromis and had no problem bullying them around when guarding fry.

I have a number of these fish. My largest is a 10 inch plus male with a large nuchal hump. Not overly aggressive, try's to throw his weight around, but backs off when someone squares up to him. There's a 7" female in his tank, but he isn't interested.

I have a smaller male around 7" who is in a tank with 2 females. Just spawned and produced fry with one of the females who he has now dumped and taken up with female number 2, which by the look of her will spawn any day now.

This male is aggressive in spawning mode, vigorously defended his brood, breaking the skin and drawing blood in 5 places on my right hand when I removed some of the fry. As others have said one of my favourites too.

so far the one I have obtained is not aggressive at all . It does seem a little hyper active which interests the other fish in my grow out tank. It is quite the clown . I do believe it is a male comparing some of the photos I looked at above .
