Good evening everyone, I call Thomas (Breidohri Fr) and I come from the North of France, one hour and a half from Paris. Not having a large number of people in American cichlids, I sign on this forum to get answers to my questions. Sorry if my English is not that good;)

I currently have a 900 liters, with American cichlids: a couple of synspilum / red parrots, a female Parachromis managuensis, a couple of heroes gold, hypsophris nicaraguensis a female, a male Aequidens rivulatus a leopard pleco, a nigrolineatus panaque and two platydoras. Be aware that all fish are young and not remain indefinitely in the aquarium. I will soon recover two breidohri Paratheraps which I will have several questions about it.

First, I saw the two who breidohri 5-7 cm, they are gray with pink and red highlights, but on the internet I saw photos of breidohri with colors really pronounced, so I wanted to know if you had to have an individual or not lighting? Mostly these are breidohri presa de angostura, so it should be well colored, unless they take their colors growing up?

Should we avoid putting some species of American cichlids with breidohri?

The breidohri they breed a lot and easily?

Thank you in advance for all your answers!

Good night.

When young, breidhori are generally grey, and do not color up until @ twice te size you have them. Here is a young female when she first arrived.

a few months later.

Females are generally less colorful than males, a male below, a few months after the last photo

Color will have much to do with a proper omnivores diet, and frequency of water changes, the more water changes, the better they look, and healthier they will be.

Thank you for this information !
So I worried for nothing.
Your breidohri are beautiful !
And for the other questions ?

Mine spawned easily and often in a community setting.
As far as compatibility, that has most to do with the size of aquarium, and territorial needs of each species.
I never keep, cichlids of the same genus together in the same tank
Just one of my self imposed rules. I find in nature, you "seldom" find 2 of the same genus together unless their feeding strategies are somewhat different.

My breidohri are about 10-12cm. They show a range of colors depending on mood. Most often they are dull grey as duanes described, but when they get excited they display dark bars and one individual shows red on the belly. When the camera angle is just right the flash creates a purple iridescence off their scales . This purple sheen is visible at other times, but not as intense as in the photos.

Maybe you already know this Thomas, but the French Cichlid Assn is very well respected, and has a fabulous publication with beautiful photography.
If you join/belong you will gain access to many species and information would not have otherwise.
And one of its most respected members, the late Jean Claude Nourisatt has had 2 cichlids named in his honor, the Central American Astatheros nourisatti, and the Madagascan Paretroplus nourisatti, and with Patrick de Rham wrote one of the most informative books on Madagascan cichlids, The Endemic Cichlids of Madagascar.

I did not know the French Cichlid Assn, but I do know Patrick de Rham, anyway thank you for that clarification Duanes! The breidohri is really beautiful, you think that I would have to maintain in 900l in specific? In this case I can set how much?

Fug202 the breidohri has not much purple?

Have you more information about the breidohri for development, the conditions and the ideal settings for breidohri tank ? Thank You.
