Today I started making the Biotope by removing most of the substrate (brown sand and black aqua soil mixed) to replace with Pool Filter Sand or Play Sand. I moved the Craggy Head Banjo Catfish to the 55 Gallon. Once I finish growing out my baby Longnose Gar and Blind Cave Tetra I’ll move them to the 55. I want to have Cypress Stumps or Cypress Knees in the tank but with prices from good looking ones being $100 + I’ll probably make them myself with spray foam. Plant suggestions and stocking suggestions (check a previous post) would be appreciated.

I've set up several aquariums back around 40 years ago by growing cypress trees in a large aquarium. I even used a live cypress stump, of course you have to have lighting but that shouldn't be difficult with modern lighting options.

Like cypress bonsai or saplings? Can you offer more details or pics?

Probably not. I do have a big Apple Snail shell but otherwise I’m not planning on invasives.
Oh okay, sounds like a neat idea anyhow, with the cypress knees and all.....looking forward to seeing photos.

Thanks. I would share photos but all there is is the sand, Apple Snail shell, and my Speckled Madtom that makes it a Florida Biotope atm. There’s also a heater and sponge filter and light. Also there’s a Cave Tetra and Longnose Gar temporarily.
