Here is a small payara I recently picked up. He/she is missing some of the tail fin from what looks to be early signs of tail rot or recovering from? to soon to tell as i got him last week. This little guy is very aggressive towards larger tankmates for some reason and because of this I am worried it could be a armatus.

I couldn’t help with ID, but the white trim in the tail does have a bacterial look to it. Clearer pics would help. Has it been getting better or worse? You may have to treat.
As for aggression, most of those fish are on the list of potential prey items after he gets a few more inches on him. Most likely he’s starting to realize that.
I kept a piranha (I know very different, but still a predatory characin) in a community setting for a bit while it was small and it had no problems going after fish bigger than itself.

As of now I've raised temp from 82 to 85 and added salt. He seems to be trying to hunt the roseys everyday so as of now I'm just observing his condition.

I dont think it's a scomb because the scombs I've had at this size would swim at more of a angle. So I believe its either armatus or tat though I could definitely be wrong so expert is needed here.

I'd say deffo not scombs

I'd say Tatt as it looks like my tatt when I bought it as opposed to armatus

The bottom photo offers a clear view of the tail fin which looks almost identical to a scomb's tail.

One for tat and one for scomb hmm confusing lol.

I’d guess tatauaia and not a scomberoides.

Why are there goldfish in that tank?
They are a horrible choice for food...way too fatty
And the water chemistry and temperature for the payara is inappropriate for the goldfish if they are permanent residents.
