my church has as monster koi pond set up (multiple ponds linked with small streams). one of the priest was over for dinner wit the family and i showed him my 'monster' set up and he saw the peacock bass and was amazed.. so he was wonderin if it was possible to keep them in the outdoor pond. we are in houston, texas so it can get a bit chilly sometimes. would pbass be able to handle cooler water temps? one pond is 2-3 ft deep, another 3-4 feet, and the other about 5 ft deep.

yep water temp cannot drop low below 80* before they will perish. the main reason south florida does well for them is natural aquifers below the water table miami and south...this allows the base deep water to stay at warm temperatures...this is why during colder months ect you will catch them in deeper water...the same for south american regions..after a cold rain the fish will be deeper depths to avoid the cooler water. In florida some populations build up to some northern counties,but every so many years they get cold temperatures and the water temp drops killing off the entire population in those northern counties. Also this was a main reason the pbass was considered for stocking in florida -as the fear of the fish spreading north was ruled out due to unsubstainable water temps and they would thrive south and keep the invasive and exotic species in check by eating them
