the bump is normal... cant tell you how big its goin to get... not that big though.. but let its nature take its course... that is just beautiful... and yes its a male... most cichlids are males when they develop humps/bumps... thats as far as i know... but could be wrong... when it comes to pea's... cuz im just learning about them and still tryin to learn more...;)

nice... awsome colors! yes deff a male.. usually this will accure if there is other males in the tank and they have reached sexual maturity.. their humps should come out too.. if not maybe you have a male and a female.. if you notice fanning of rocks or pit digging and major aggression then you may have a pair ;)

how many cichla do you have? any full tank shots?

also if you could take some of your time and fill out mjuniors sticky ...STARTING A SOLID CICHLA THREAD

I believe monocs can breed at 15" or so. I would think it would normally happen a little larger, but it could happen. How do you know the other is a female? It may not be a female just because it doesn't have a nuchal hump. But it may be.

thats freakin' awesome... how long have you had yours?

i cant wait for mine to get bigger...

monos can spawn as small as 12- 14 inches......

to answer your other question.. if more than one male mono is present they will both have humps... if only one male is present a hump may not apear.... so if you have 5 monos for example if 4 have humps most likely the last ones a female.... if you have 2 and 1 has a hump, most likely ones a male and ones a female.. if you have one no hump... it can be male or female... 2 cichla, 2 humps, 2 males ... females have a diff shape... just remember if they dont all have humps by 15 inches then is most likely a female and she will be more aggressive towards the males
