Hi Blink.
Pearl rays have no scientific species name, they are from the genus potamotrygon and are simply known as Potamotrygon sp "pearl".
The one in the pic used to belong to Lode (I think) and is what i would describe as a very special Pearl as is the one in my avatar which belongs to me.This quality is few and far between and comands a high price, however there are plenty of Pearls to be had which are still very nice and well worth having at more reasonable prices, ask to see both Parent fish,if they float your boat then go for it, beauty is in the eye of the beholder,Pearls are very variable, this for me is what makes them interesting, its the same for Marbles.
Very sorry to hear of your loss, good that you are looking round again for a new ray,you started with a wild Reticulata, probably one of the hardest rays to acclimatise, from what I read you did nothing wrong so don't blame yourself, these things happen to us all, that little ray had no chance from the start like many that are imported. Many people start with Reticulata because they are the cheapest option to have a go,sadly too many die in the hands of the inexperienced or first ray keeper.....they are not a good starter ray even though they don't attain a huge size.
Don't jump at the first pearl you see, take your time then you won't be disappointed.
Good luck!
