I am in the process of building my big tank 98*43*29 l*w*h

so my questions are

1) what is the max size of a pearl stingray can't find any info about them online

2) which is easier to maintain/keep a bd or pearl

3) give me ur thoughts and any tips that might help

am planning to get pair as a first time ray owner

thanks in advance

I have both in the same tank.... being around the same age and I got them around the same time... the BDs are at least twice the size of the pearls
interesting, u mean the bds are more aggressive eaters or that they grow bigger in general

cuz I heard from joey (king of diy) in a vid that pearls grow bigger than bds

also another question a pair or a trio in the tank size above as in space. for bio load I will have a 180 gallon sump and weekly or twice a week water changes so plenty of water

Lol that’s a first. I love Joey but sometimes he says things that may have been improved.

pearls typically max out around 22-24” but can be a bit bigger (rarely) and also can be much smaller.

Leo’s are typically much bigger, but also can be smaller depending on care, feeding, genetics. When getting bd- you should treat it as if it will grow to 30”. But like I said before they don’t always get to this size.

with that size of tank you should be fine for at least 4-5 yrs before noticing the bd outgrowing it or not. I have not owned bd (yet) personally but I have friends that have, tanks as bigger than you are mentioning here and they out grow it after 4-5 years. I also know of people who have 8 yr old males that are proven breeders that don’t exceed 14”.

That sounds good, if you are able to do a drip system, it seems to be the consensus that drips are best practice with large rays.

my current rays aren’t even big yet and I already wish I had a drip because it can be nuts with all the wc’s
