petting fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i pet my oscar when she lets me.
if i do it to hard she peaces it but if it's really really gental she's okay with it.
some say it's bad cause it removes their protective slime coat
but i'm sure fish reproduce that at a rate which they couldn't be harmed from loosing it.

I have to keep pushing my Oscars out of the way to syphon their tanks, but I don't think it counts as petting. My Dojo Loachs swarm all over in and out of my fingers when I"m trying to clean the tank they're in. They act like they're trying to lay inside my hand and will wiggle in and out of my fingers when I 'pet' them.

Severums and loaches.:grinyes:

Is that a good grin or a frowny grin? lol
The Severum is a gentle pushover, he's not aggressive with non-cichlids. The Loaches take food right out of his mouth. He has to snatch food and go hide in the corner to eat. But I know how he is with another male Cichlid :-O so that's how I know he's tough enough to compete with 16 Loaches for food.

That's odd that we have similar experiences, Ksane.;)

Oh, you mean you've got Loaches with a Severum, too? I thought I was going to get flamed for having a 'mean ole' cichlid' in with my 'sweet little Loaches' lol. But it's the Loaches who hand out the whoopin's in that tank. Tough little buggers.

Severums live in the same water conditions as the loaches. The only difference is loaches prefer currents although the severums do not mind my river setup.:)
