Got this guy in March of 2023, when he was in the 3" range. Bought him from someone local, who probably had 75 growouts in a 100 gallon tank. He looks to have characteristics of both a cyano and carpintis to me, so I consider him a mutt. About 8" TL right now.20230313_191428.jpg20230501_184032.jpg20230717_144529.jpg20231222_114648.jpg20240221_084441.jpg20241007_154716.jpg

Just curious why you think its a hybrid, and (it could be) but many Herichthyines are quite striking as pure breds.
Above if Herichthys carpintus "Lago Chairel" from near Veracruz, a seasonally brackish lake
Below Herichthys tamaspoensis found in tributaries of the Rio Panuco

There are about 19 species in the genus Herichthys, and about half have similar color patterns.

Beautiful fish. What can you tell us the “local person” you bought this fish from? Seems from your post they bred and raised the fry. Did you see or get any information about the parent pair?

Thank you for your post. Some absolute beauties there.
He could very well be purebred but, because I really don't know what his lineage is, I've considered him a hybrid. I don't have any intention of breeding him, soIi suppose it doesn't really matter what he is.

Thank you. I don't really remember much about our conversation about the parents, but he did raise the fry. I believe he bought the parents as "Texas Cichlids". I've just messaged him asking if he can send a Pic of the parents, so we'll see.
