I woke up this morning to dead fish. Looks like Bloat but I really have NO idea. Something from Wal-Mart I'm sure. I did a 50% water change with salt and pumped the temp to 80.

I picked up the teriffic two-some Pima and Mela tonight and dosed the tank. Pulled the filter for now including the biowheel which I'm floating in a 5 gallon hex. everything I've ever read says to pull the charcoal but leave the biological and that they are both totally safe for loaches. But now that it's to late and the medicine is in the water...

Anybody have any problems with either product and should I put the wheel back in tonight?

The loaches obviously don't like the "smell" in the water. They came out of hiding to eat Krill but quickly hid again in their log. The Corries on the other hand are uber active.

EDIT: I just added some set water to the tank via the filter sans the biowheel and I washed a lot of white cottony crap into the water out of the filter. I'm assuming it's a fungus?

Mela and Pima are crap, unless healing a wound.

When Ive used these I have noticed increased activity in some of the fish at first, than they go back to normal.
What are you suspecting killed your fish? Mela and Pima are good for healing wounds and getting rid of fungus, but i don't think they will do anything for what killed your fish.
You said : "thatit's to late and the medicine is in the water... " If they continue to act weird, do a water change to dilute it out in your tank. Also it doesnt appear to do any harm to bacteria so you can put your bio-wheel back in with no adverse effects to it.

so what died anyway?
never used primafix but melafix is great for cuts, fins and ick; imho.

all you really need to take out is the carbon/charcoa. after the week or so of treament you do the water change and place the carbon/charcoal back in to take out the medication. Thats what I was always told and read.l

sounds like what i had in my 55 gal at one time never saw any thing like it cleaned my filters (2 aqua clear 500 with carbon) did 50% water change never had any more problems

Describe how the fish died please, then read the new sticky about mouth rot as the white cottony growth in your filter sounds a lot like flexibacter. One way can effect fish is to cause a systemic septicemia that kills quickly and causes swollen, foul smelling corpses,

I find melifix and pimafix work far better as a preventitive than a cure-Anne

They were all floating below the surface. All partially eaten and white but not fuzzy. And they all looked bloated and swollen. No hints that this was going to happen. PH and Ammonia OK. And all the bottom feeders are healthy and active.
